How to make a presentation with ChatGPT

ChatGPT can write a strong first draft of any presentation in under a minute. Here’s how to get slides, not just text.

0:00 / 0:28 4 steps

Step by step: make a presentation with your AI

  1. Describe it. In the studio, choose New. Write the topic, who is listening, how many slides and the tone. Presenter Cue writes a detailed prompt from your answers.
  2. Ask your assistant. Tap ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini. It opens in a new tab with the prompt ready; send it and wait for the answer. No credits, just the assistant you already use.
  3. Paste the answer. Back in the studio, paste the reply. Presenter Cue reads it, even with small mistakes, and draws every slide at once, with speaker notes.
  4. Edit and present. Change any word, add your own pictures, pick a theme, then press Present. Arrow keys, a clicker or a tap move the slides; with Pro, so does your phone.

1. Decide what the talk is for

Before any prompt, answer three questions: who is listening, what should they do or know afterwards, and how long do you have? Put those answers in the prompt.

2. Ask for slides in a fixed shape

A prompt that asks for layouts, short titles, few bullets and speaker notes gives you a deck. Presenter Cue writes this prompt for you: open the studio, choose New, fill in the form and tap ChatGPT.

3. Paste the answer

Copy ChatGPT’s whole reply with its copy button and paste it into the studio. You get designed slides immediately.

4. Make it accurate and yours

  • Check every fact and replace example figures with real ones.
  • Add your own photos to the image slides.
  • Cut anything you wouldn’t say out loud.

5. Rehearse and present

Present full screen with F5. With Pro, use presenter view and your phone as the remote, and download a PDF to share afterwards.

Common problems and fixes

What happenedWhat to do
ChatGPT wrote an essay instead of slidesReply “Send it as one JSON code block in exactly the shape I asked for.”
Every slide is bullet pointsAsk for “a chart on slide 4, a timeline on slide 6 and a big numbers slide after the title”, or change layouts in the side panel.
Bullets are too long“Shorten every bullet to under eight words. Send the whole JSON back.”
Numbers look inventedReplace them with real figures, or paste your figures into the topic and generate again.
The answer stopped partwayPaste it anyway, or reply “continue” and paste the full answer.
Pasting says it found no slidesCopy with ChatGPT’s copy button so the code block comes with it.

A complete example

“How our support team cut response times in half”

Kind: Report or update. Audience: the leadership team. Slides: 7. Tone: Professional. Facts in the topic: “Median first response went from 9 hours to 4 hours between January and June. Changes: a shared inbox, three reply templates, a weekend rota. Next: chat support in Q3.”

ChatGPT returned a title slide, a Big numbers slide (9h to 4h), a Timeline of the changes, a Process slide for the new routine, a Chart of response times by month (from the facts given), a Bullets slide of lessons and a Closing slide asking for approval of chat support. Two numbers on the chart were placeholders, because the topic had only the start and end values; those were filled in from the support dashboard before presenting.

How long it takes

Describing the deck takes a minute, ChatGPT takes one or two, and pasting is instant. Checking facts, adding a few pictures and rehearsing once takes the rest of an hour for most decks: far less than building slides by hand.

Questions

How long does it take?

A first deck takes about two minutes. Checking and personalising it is where your time should go.

Is it OK to present slides written by AI?

Usually, if they’re accurate and you can speak to them. Follow your school’s or employer’s rules on AI use.

Can ChatGPT make the whole presentation by itself?

It can draft the content and structure. Checking facts, adding your own pictures and rehearsing are still yours to do; that is what makes a presentation work.

How do I add my own data?

Paste the figures into the topic before you ask, with what each one measures. The assistant then builds charts and big-number slides from your data instead of placeholders.

Can I edit the slides after pasting?

Yes. Click any slide to change its text, layout, chart values or picture in the side panel. Undo works for every change.
